A Meeting on the Future of Statistical Computing

About the Workshop

The third international workshop on 'Distributed Statistical Computing' (DSC 2003) will take place at the Technische Universität Wien in Vienna, Austria from 2003-03-20 to 2003-03-22. This workshop will deal with future directions in (open source) statistical computing and graphics.
The workshop is organized jointly by the Austrian Association for Statistical Computing (AASC) and the R Foundation for Statistical Computing.

Topics of particular interest include:

Emphasis will be given to the R, Omegahat and BioConductor projects. DSC 2003 builds on the spirit and success of DSC 1999 and DSC 2001, which were seminal to the further development of R and Omegahat.

Prior to the workshop, on 2003-03-19, there are some tutorials at the conference site and there is the Open pre-DSC'03 spatial data workshop organized by Roger Bivand at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration.

Call for Papers

We invite papers on topics related to statistical computing.
Deadline for submission of abstracts (1 page) is 2002-11-30.
Notification of acceptance or rejection will be sent before 2003-01-31.

Submission deadline for draft versions of the papers is 2003-03-07 so that these can be included in the online program of the workshop.
Submission deadline for the final version of papers for the online proceedings is 2003-04-30.
We strongly recommend to send a draft version before 2003-03-07 which can be discussed during the workshop and to send a refined version until 2003-04-30.
The papers will be peer-reviewed and notification of acceptance or rejection of the final paper for the online proceedings will be sent by 2003-06-30.

The accepted papers will be published online in the DSC 2003 proceedings. Authors keep the copyright. This means that as far as the DSC committee is concerned, authors can publish their submissions elsewehere as well (if the other outlet does not forbid this). The published paper stays on the DSC server, however, and will be freely available.

Please use the DSC 2003 style file (which is available as zip or tar.gz and should be included as \usepackage{dsc2003}) for paper submission and send us the full sources of the paper. There is no page limit but a length of 7-10 pages is recommended.

Abstracts and papers can be submitted via e-mail to: dsc-org@ci.tuwien.ac.at.
