Tutorial: Using ESS and Emacs for R Programming and Data Analysis

presented by Anthony Rossini

Goals:

This session will focus on the basics of using ESS for programming and data analysis with R, including extensions and customizations. The time schedule is 1 hour on the basics, 1 hour on advanced (ESS/Emacs) usage, 1 hour on programming in Emacs Lisp for customization, and 1/2 hour on "random best practices".

Background required:

Elementary knowledge of R for data analysis and rudimentary programming structures, interest in using Emacs.

Justification:

People say that Emacs is helpful. Others don't understand why. This session will make it more helpful to some, and help unbelievers understand why.
