Title: The Statistical Reality Engine Abstract: The Statistical Reality Engine is a framework for testing and evaluating visual statistical environments for data analysis using commodity hardware and software to provide an interface for prototyping interfaces which border the fields of virtual reality and statistical design and analysis. This system, built using R and VRJuggler, and leveraging prior art in the RGL, ROrca, and RGGobi packages, allows for single-user and collaborative data analysis within hardware environments ranging from a single laptop, to multiple networked computers, to fully immersive virtual environments such as Iowa State University's C6. The current system explores the use of alternative computer input devices and displays for data presentation and limited manipulation. We describe some of the paradigms for both data analysis analogies as well as collaborative data analysis which are being explored. Future experiments will study the use of! 2-d and 3-d statistical statistical data visualization as well as the user interface.
